Personal transporters are the most unusual looking of all the electric vehicles available today. The first truly useable personal transporter was the Segway, but a few other companies are producing similar looking devices that are not as technologically advanced as the Segway. They're probably not as good, or have the same build quality but at a fraction of the price they're certainly worth considering if you need to have a step-on upright personal transporter.
To us the personal transporters seem to be a bit too bulky and cumbersome to take seriously for the role they are designed to fulfil. They appear to try and fix a problem that doesn't really exist, the problem is that they achieve little more than could be done on a stand-on scooter or even a moped, you lose the flexibility and the health benefits of walking but gain the inconvenience of having to use your hands to steer. The long arm makes them difficult to transport from place to place, they have a very low top speed and there have been some safety issues. In the UK, it is currently not legal to use them anywhere other than private property with the owners permission.
They are quite well suited to replace the golf buggy, especially with the wide, low pressure tyres of the Segway X2. 24 mile range should be sufficient for even the worst golfer.
